Feeling more like Spring

By JSP
I was just looking down at the old blog here and saw my posting about the big snowstorms we had here a few weeks ago. Things have quickly changed. I can now look out the window to the back yard and see ground instead of 2 feet of snow. Last weekend, there were several days in the 50s and that really took a chuck out of the snow mass. Now mainly there are only the remainder of the big piles of snow on the sides of the street or end of driveways. The change in weather sure gets me excited for Spring. I have to wait a bit longer as this weekend has been chilly (closer to normal temperatures).

Hopefully today I will be getting out to do some Spring shopping. The goal is to buy some supplies to start seeds indoors. Both JayBee and I get to enjoy a full growing season at the new house and we both have lots of ideas on how to shape and change the yard. One change we both agree on is putting in a vegetable garden in the back by our garage. If you scroll down you can see a picture of this location, the one with 6 feet of snow piled up next to our neighbors off-white garage. At one point this plot of ground was likely a space someone parked their car on. So we will have to dig out the gravel and debris and put in some fresh soil and some retaining stone to make it look nice.

The early start I hope to get working on today includes buying some seeds for tomatoes, peppers and herbs (maybe more), and get them growing indoors. Hopefully sometime in May they will be growing healthy and ready to plant outdoors. Pictures should be here as soon as the yard starts to take shape with the coming of warm Spring weather.

While I am Blogging...Denver Trip Pictures

By JSP
A week has passed since we were both in the Rocky Mountains enjoying our vacation time with friends. It really was a pleasant time and both Jay Bee and I wish it could have lasted many more days. Some did some skiing, I did a bit of snowshoeing and we all played games, ate good food and drank tasty drinks. Here are a few pictures to illustrate our experience.

The first full day was spent in Denver. We saw some art, some sights and took a brewery tour.

The next day, Friday, we drove into the mountains to the house we were all staying. Somehow the Disney crew showed up to entertain us. Also some of us got carried away with the games.

Back to Back Snowstorms

By JSP

It is very white in the Twin Cities these days. Over the last week we have received nearly two feet of snow because of two large snowstorms. The first occurred while we were vacationing in Denver. When we got home last Sunday night we had a foot of heavy snow waiting to be shoveled away.

The second storm started on Wednesday and lasted until yesterday. This storm brought another foot or so of snow. It has been troublesome to find a place to put all of the snow, as the piles have grown to taller than I am. Needless to say my shoulders and back are a bit sore after several rounds of shoveling. Our neighbors have been very friendly and have used their snowblowers a few times to help us out with all the snow.

The pictures were taken today, it is finally sunny but not so warm. I am looking forward to the warm weather that has been forecast, but not to the slush and dirty snow.
